Paul Hoelscher is a full-time artist and art instructor in Baker City, Oregon. He graduated from St. John’s University in Minnesota with a double major B.A. in Fine Art and Economics, Summa Cum Laude. Paul paints with acrylic, watercolor, pastel and oil, and draws and sketches with many dry media and ink. He carries a sketchbook with him everywhere he goes to record fleeting moments with animals and people, as well as the landscape and the sky. He states his paintings and drawings “share his impressions of the richest and most perfect parts of life – the wonderful things whose goodness we can take absolutely no credit for.” Paul believes that good drawing from honest observation is the best foundation for good representational art. Mood and depth are very important considerations in his work and he is always striving for efficiency in design and detail. His overall painting technique celebrates his subjects while sharing the interest of real and implied texture and color relationships.
