Dr. Gill Sanders first turned his hobby of carving fish into a business in the late 80’s. His understanding of anatomy and love of the subject are obvious in his work, as well as his desire to create. In Wildlife art News, Al Agnew wrote, “The wood carving of artists such as Gill Sanders do not rely upon colors and scale patterns to make the finny creature look alive; that flowing efficient body form is an artistic statement in itself.” To date, he has fashioned almost 2,000 trout. At the rate of 200 a year, he makes more money per hour carving fish than he did as a pediatrician. His fish are displayed in trout shops and galleries from New York to Los Angeles, including Tiffany’s on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
